Devlog #1 (EN): Creating SAFE MODE

Hello everyone! I want to share with you the story behind Safe Zone, my first game, created in just three days for the Brackeys Game Jam, where the theme was "Nothing can go wrong." It was an experience full of challenges, improvisation, and a lot of learning, and I'm excited for what's coming next.

From knowing nothing to making a game in three days

Just a month ago, I had no idea what a node or a sprite was, let alone how to code. I had always wanted to make video games, but I had never taken the step. I decided to learn Godot, and after just a few weeks of practice, I jumped headfirst into this game jam without knowing if I could make something functional.

I knew making a game in seven days would be difficult, but I never imagined the number of problems that would arise. Despite that, I finished it in three days (using the remaining time to add more content for the future).

The story behind Safe Zone

Safe Zone is an interpretation of the comfort zone where we often find ourselves trapped. We live stuck in a cycle of routines and daily obstacles, overcoming them, moving forward, and repeating the process over and over again.

The game represents this cycle: you are trapped in SAFE ZONE, a safe space where nothing can go wrong, but you also can’t truly move forward. To escape, you have to start questioning everything, overanalyzing situations, and making difficult decisions. However, leaving this zone is not easy—it will test your logic and your sense of security.

The idea for Safe Zone came from a message I saw on a sugar packet"In the end, nothing will go wrong, and if it does, it's not the end."

This phrase made me think about how we face life. Many times, we’re stuck in a comfort zone, in a loop of routines and obstacles that we must constantly overcome. But to truly escape, we have to question everything.

My experience in the Game Jam

The experience in the Brackeys Game Jam was a bit strange for me. I didn’t know how everything worked, and I struggled to understand how to get people to play and rate my game.

I saw games with over 200 ratings, while mine barely had 25.

Without a specific audience, I didn’t know how to gain visibility, and the competition was strong. Despite that, I managed to rank 267th out of 2,200 games, which I think is a good result considering it was my first game and I made it in just three days. Still, I would have loved to rank even higher.
